a. Doctors Cocktail Party
The event took place on February 26, 2009 and was another success. The event generated approximately $11,500 of revenue. The Board expressed its sincere gratitude to Dr Mingroni for his on going support of the Commission through this fund raiser.
This year’s event is scheduled for May 19 and as in the past, will be held at the Bellevue. Cardinal Justin Regali will give the invocation. The Archdiocesan Boy Choir will sing the National Anthem. The guest speaker will be David Cohen of Comcast Corp. This year’s Presidential Award will be given posthumously to the 4 Philadelphia Police Officers who died in the line of duty during 2008. In an effort to off set the increased costs of this year’s event, the President encouraged the Board to discuss the available sponsorships with businesses in the community. The Commission seeks a $5000 sponsor for the VIP reception. Individual award sponsors will be invited to the VIP reception for pictures and an opportunity to meet the award recipients.
Crime Commission Updates
In an effort to obtain greater involvement of the Commission in So Jersey, Board Member Vince Borrelli has met with 45 Police Chiefs from South Jersey. Camden County has been providing the Commission with homicide cases and the Tip Line has been influential in providing details that have lead to arrests.
The President and V.P. have additional meetings scheduled in South Jersey with Gloucester and Camden Counties. They are also meeting with Camden County Community College regarding the campus Crime Busters Program.
The Tip Line continues to be very active.
Marketing Committee
In an effort to obtain greater corporate involvement, Marketing Committee Chair Trovato, along with Commission Chair Moroca met with executives at Acme, Shop Rite, McDonalds and Budweiser. Both Acme and Shop Rite considered the Commission and ultimately invested in other needs. Discussions with Budweiser and McDonald’s continue
Chairman Trovato also reviewed the progress of the L.E.A.D Luncheon Program. This years program will be greatly improved and will offer sponsors the opportunity to purchase ads, which if successful would offset the cost of the luncheon and increase revenues to the Commission.
Miscellaneous
A recommendation was made and accepted that all reports be provided to Board Members prior to meetings.
Financial Report
There was a detailed discussion regarding the Commission’s current financial standings. The current economic climate has further complicated the difficulty of obtaining corporate contributions. The President and Vice-President, with the help of the marketing committee, have as mentioned in other areas of this report, stepped up their efforts to increase corporate awareness of the Commission’s efforts. As reflected in the reports, contributions from TD North Bank through the Affinity program, as well as increased sponsorship of the L.E.A.D luncheon have resulted in new streams of revenue.
The Commission is projecting a 6% increase in revenues with a corresponding 6% increase in expenses.
A discussion regarding the format of the current financial reports ensued and the Board reached an agreement that the format needed to be addressed. It was agreed that the President, VP and a member of the Finance Committee would meet with the Chamber of Commerce in order to address these concerns.
A recommendation was made that complete review of all investment accounts, interest rates and yields takes place prior to the next Board Meeting
Please help in any way to support the Luncheon.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00 PM for lunch and Board Meeting
